El presidente del Gobierno español, Pedro Sánchez, anunciará en la Cumbre Iberoamericana de Andorra que España pondrá vacunas a disposición de los países de América Latina para combatir la pandemia de coronavirus y que pretende coordinar esta acción con la Unión Europea.
La portavoz del Gobierno, María Jesús Montero, avanzó este martes que Sánchez anunciará mañana en ese encuentro que «España pondrá vacunas a disposición de Latinoamérica tan pronto como sea posible» para hacer frente a la emergencia sanitaria.
Montero, en la rueda de prensa posterior a la reunión semanal del gabinete, explicó que la Cumbre pretende dar respuesta a la crisis sanitaria y socioeconómica provocada por la pandemia y señaló que el Gobierno español es muy sensible al hecho de que América Latina haya sido una de las zonas más castigadas por la covid-19.
Latinoamérica concentra el 8,4 % de la población mundial, pero ha asumido el 28 % de las muertes por covid-19 en todo el planeta.
Además, ha sufrido el mayor descenso de su economía en décadas -en torno al 8 % en 2020-, con el cierre de 2,7 millones de empresas y con un retroceso de 30 años en cuanto al índice de pobreza, con 78 millones en situación extrema.
«Lo hacemos porque el acceso a las vacunas tiene que ser equitativo y universal», subrayó la portavoz del Gobierno español, antes de recordar que al inicio de este año, el Ejecutivo impulsó un plan de vacunas solidarias.
No obstante, las incidencias respecto al plan de entrega de las vacunas por las diversas farmacéuticas serán tenidas en cuenta a la hora de aplicar el compromiso con América Latina, dijo Montero.
Además, señaló que pretenden coordinar esta acción con la Unión Europea para facilitar la llegada de las vacunas.
