Chile anunció este lunes que restringirá la administración de la vacuna de Astrazeneca y la Universidad de Oxford, que aprobó el pasado enero, y solo la aplicará a las mujeres mayores de 55 años y a los hombres mayores de 18 años para evitar el riesgo de trombosis.
«La tasa de notificación de trombos es muy baja, sin embargo, para resguardar la seguridad absoluta va a ser usada en esta población», afirmó la subsecretaria de Salud, Paula Daza.
La decisión se adoptó por recomendación del regulador Instituto de Salud Pública (ISP), que consideró las indicaciones de la Agencia Europea de Medicamentos (EMA, en inglés) y aseguró que «los casos de coágulos sanguíneos se presentaron en mujeres jóvenes» y que «los beneficios de la vacuna superan los riesgos que supone la misma».
El país ha inoculado contra la covid-19 a más del 50 % de la población objetivo (alrededor de 13 millones de habitantes) con al menos una dosis y más del 35 % ha recibido ya las dos dosis.
Desde finales de marzo, entre el 80 % y el 90 % de la población ha estado confinada para contener el avance de la segunda ola de covid-19 que ha puesto al borde del colapso al sistema hospitalario, incluida toda la capital, que mantiene desde entonces todos los comercios cerrados excepto los de primera necesidad.
