Las científicas peruanas Melissa Soriano Horny (39) y Jessica Márquez González (44) llevaron el nombre de nuestro país a lo más alto, pues participaron en el aterrizaje del rover ‘Perseverance’ de la NASA en Marte. Fueron felicitadas por la Embajada de Estados Unidos en Perú.
Melissa, hija de ancashinos, nació en Virginia, pero sus padres la inscribieron en el consulado peruano de Washington. Por sus habilidades en matemáticas, una empresa de computadoras la becó y costeó sus estudios secundarios y superiores en el Instituto de Tecnología de California. Allí siguió ingeniería en electricidad y economía.

Ella integró el equipo que realizó el lanzamiento de ‘Curiosity’, un rover que también fue enviado a Marte en el 2012, y de la misión ‘Juno’ a Júpiter en el 2016.
